Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) Training for Instructor Therapists
The Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) has provided funding to CON*NECT Strategic Alliances to coordinate an exciting training initiative. Now in its second year, this three-year initiative involves delivery of the Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) training for Instructor Therapists hired by families choosing the Direct Funding Option in the MCYS Autism Intervention Program.
This training is offered exclusively in colleges offering Autism and Behavioural Science programs funded by MCYS. Current college partners include George Brown, Mohawk and Seneca, and expansion to the other colleges to ensure accessibility of training is in the works, as is the development of French-language delivery. To fully meet training needs province-wide, an on-line version of the curriculum is under development, with completion expected in late 2009.
Training for DFO Instructor Therapists
This initiative enables Instructor Therapists (ITs) hired by families choosing the Direct Funding Option (DFO) to enhance their knowledge and skills through training provided by community colleges.
Training will be available at no cost to families or Instructor Therapists.
The only 2 requirements are:
That the hiring family has chosen the Direct Funding Option
That the Instructor Therapist’s clinical supervisor has agreed that the training being offered is relevant to the training needs that the clinical supervisor has identified in consultation with the hiring family.
Training Sessions
A series of training sessions on varied topics that are relevant to the work of Instructor Therapists working with children with autism will be offered.
Topics covered in the modules include:
Autism: description, behavioural characteristics and assessment
Intensive Behavioural Intervention
Arranging Physical Environments
Arranging Antecedent Conditions
Arranging Consequent Events

It is expected that most training sessions will be approximately six hours in length.
