Quality Continuous Improvement Centre for Community Education & Training (also called the Centre for Education and Training)
CON*NECT is partnering with the Quality Continuous Improvement Centre for Community Education & Training (QCICCET) on an Essential Skills Awareness project funded by Human Resources and Social Development Canada. The project is intended to enhance awareness of Essential Skills among employers in three to four provinces, including Ontario. CON*NECT and the colleges have an established track record employer outreach, and CON*NECT holds the Ontario license for the Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) on behalf of a 23-college consortium. With this strong background in mind, CON*NECT agreed to assist QCICCET by promoting their Essential Skills for the Changing Workforce seminars among the colleges and with business and industry.
CON*NECT’s role involves consultation with QCICCET project staff and the establishment of appropriate linkages with college staff engaged in TOWES projects for information sharing and the discussion of best practices. CON*NECT will also help identify employers who may be in need of Essential Skills, assist with the employer awareness campaign and act as lead with an evaluation plan that surveys the take-up of tools used by employers and measures outcomes. Several colleges have committed to hosting the seminars to increase employer awareness regarding the benefits of Essential Skills upgrading. Phase 2 of the project will involve promotion of the seminars to colleges in 2 - 3 other provinces and compiling case studies which will be posted on the website.
